There are two types of methods for measuring the thermal conductivity of refractory bricks: steady-state method and non-stationary method.
The steady-state method usually uses a flat plate thermal conductivity meter, which mainly consists of heating plates, cooling plates, heat protection plates, and calorimeters. In steady-state testing, the sample to be tested is in a stable temperature field, and the heat flux per unit area of the sample is measured.
The advantage of non steady state method is that it is easy and fast to measure. The international standard (ISO8894-1) determines the thermal conductivity of refractory materials, and the Chinese standard (GB/T5990-1986) determines the thermal conductivity of shaped insulation refractory products using the cross hot wire method in the non steady state method. The principle is to measure the temperature rise of a linear heat source buried along the length direction of the sample for a certain period of time. Measure the temperature of the hot wire over time by welding a thermocouple at the midpoint. The temperature change of this line is a function of the thermal conductivity of the tested material.
